{"id":1751,"date":"2016-02-17T16:34:12","date_gmt":"2016-02-17T21:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.granitestatefutures.org\/?p=1751"},"modified":"2016-08-21T11:25:06","modified_gmt":"2016-08-21T15:25:06","slug":"the-takeover-of-local-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/granitestatefutures.org\/news\/2016\/02\/17\/the-takeover-of-local-government\/","title":{"rendered":"The Takeover of Local Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From John Anthony at Sustainable Freedom Lab: The destruction of our economy&#8230; the destruction of our health care system&#8230; guns confiscated&#8230; borders wide open&#8230; destruction of property rights&#8230; privacy rights&#8230; the UN\u2019s new Agenda 2030&#8230; HUD\u2019s oppressive <a href=\" https:\/\/www.hudexchange.info\/programs\/affh\/\" target=\"_blank\">Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) Rule<\/a>&#8230; and so much more, is happening and very fast.<\/p>\n<p>Do you know what these are and how to stop them? Most Americans have no idea what they are actually fighting.\u00a0 Worse \u2013 they don\u2019t know that most of these battles will be won or lost on the LOCAL level \u2013 not in Congress!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\" https:\/\/www.hudexchange.info\/programs\/affh\/\" target=\"_blank\">AFFH<\/a> is a decades\u00a0old term that HUD just\u00a0translated into a package of mandates governing how communities must use new grant money. \u00a0\u00a0Acceptance of funds through familiar programs such as CDBGs, suddenly triggers the revised AFFH \u201cobligation.\u201d This chilling tactic allows HUD to take control of local zoning, reverse voters\u2019 decisions and even annex your hometown into a region.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, HUD forced the citizens of Rockford, IL, to abandon their vote to build 49 affordable housing units and instead accept 69 units.\u00a0 Neither the mayor, the council nor the community wanted the larger number of homes.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t matter. HUD struck like a sledgehammer.\u00a0\u00a0 They threatened to notify the Department of Justice of possible civil rights violations and failure to affirmatively further fair housing.\u00a0 The community had no choice but to buckle.<\/p>\n<p>Worse, once a community accepts HUD funds, AFFH rules govern any money\u2019s they receive, public or private, that HUD concludes may affect fair housing or urban development.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>People are fighting back.\u00a0 The communities of Castle Rock, CO, <strong>Goffstown and Rindge NH,<\/strong> and Westchester County, NY have already rejected HUD grants issued under the new AFFH rule.<\/p>\n<p>According to Tom DeWeese of American Policy Center, international policy is currently directing local communities to enforce cutbacks on water use by as much as 75%.<\/p>\n<p>The Sierra Club\u2019s plan forces 500 families to live on one acre of land and they deem it \u201cSmart Growth.\u201d The new corporate law called \u201cBenefit Corporations\u201d enlists corporations to enforce sustainable development policies in their products and promotions.
