GET INVOLVED

As you can see from the video above, the Regional Planners REALLY want your input. Let's prepare to give it to them. Here is what you can do:

  1. Post Feedback to GSF [Link]
Keep it polite, but make it clear -- you have an American dream. You want to own property in a rural area, grow a garden, raise some animals, and own the water in your well. You want to be able to use your car if you please without being taxed by the mile in addition to gasoline taxes. Not everyone wants commuter rail, or bike paths. Not everyone wants to live or work in the city. Not everyone thinks they should give up eating meat, or using air conditioning.

  2. Learn How Listening Sessions and Charrettes are Conducted [Link] and how to Counter [Link] them. Learn to spot the Enablers and Enforcers who steer the conversation. Watch YouTube videos of previously attended Listening Sessions and Charrettes.

  3. Learn the Lingo
Familiarize yourself with words and phrases such as "smart growth", "livable, walkable cities", "consensus", "high density", "social justice" and how they relate to GSF, all listed on the left side of this page.

  4. Attend a Listening Session
Find out what goes on at "listening sessions". Use the flip menu to the right to find your town. It will take you to the page for the listening sessions in your region. Alternately, you can use the calendar.

  5. Attend Planning and Zoning Board Meetings in Your Town
Find out when the RPCs will meet with your town planners to sell them the GSF program, and be there to give your input.

  6. Record/Videotape Meetings
If possible, record, videotape, or at least take notes at the above meetings.

  7. Become a Facilitator [Link]
Take the training, then become a faciliator at your local Listening Session.

  8. Serve on your Regional Planning Commission
Ask your selectmen to appoint you to serve on your Regional Planning Commission. You can find the vacancies by going to the RPC that covers your town, and checking their list of commissioners. Currently, Rockingham and Strafford have numerous openings.

  9. Spread the Word
    - Distribute this ONE PAGE HANDOUT [PDF] to listening session attendees so they will know what to expect.
    - Give them the FACTS ABOUT GSF [PDF]
    - Send this website URL to friends, family, co-workers.
